Betty Ann Hietala, 61, of Duluth, died Monday Jan. 6, 2014 in her home.
She was born in Duluth on Nov. 25, 1952 to Ruben and Jeanette Schellin.
Betty had worked at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Hospital after raising her children. Betty formed many friendships with her co-workers that she cherished over the years. She enjoyed knitting, gardening in her yard, and creating spectacular holiday displays. She also enjoyed her adventures as one of the “Three Musketeers” with her cousins, Gordy Bauer and Jeanine Schlies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter Hietala, significant other Bobby Howes and friend Bruce Swenson.
She is survived by her children, Marvin Hietala, Leo Hietala, Tina (Robert Cavanaugh) Hietala, Jason Hietala, and Beth (Greg) Panula; grandchildren Trenton, River Lee, Silas, Amelia Grace, and baby Panula who’s due in May; sister, Connie Jung, numerous cousins and special nieces, and her special friend Roy Gustafson.
