William J. Daugherty passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 6, while in hospice care at home.
Bill was born in Duluth on Aug. 1, 1928 to Frank and Marguerite Daugherty.
Bill served in the Korean War and then moved to the Twin Cities after his college years.
Bill was a fun loving, gregarious man who enjoyed sports of all kinds. In his early years he played hockey and curling. Bill coached Pee-Wee and Bantam Hockey for the MendEagan Hockey Association for many years. Bill loved to joke around and had a great sense of humor…. Five players from the Vikings team were asked to be pallbearers, to let him down one more time.
Joyce and Bill had a wonderful marriage of 34 years. They spent summers at their paradise cabin on East Bass Lake in northern Minnesota. Lately, Bill became quite the craftsman of custom birdhouses.
Bill is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter Mary; and a long list of sisters, brothers, step children and grandchildren.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 in Lakeside Presbyterian Church at 45th Avenue East and McCulloch Street. A visitation will be at 10 a.m.
