Renette D. (Lachecki) Amato, 92, of Maple Grove Rd. died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 in her home surrounded by her nephew Gordon Grant.
Renette was native of Duluth where she graduated from the girls Cathedral High School, then attended Junior College. When the war started, she moved to Washington DC where she was a secretary at the Office of Price Administration. After the war, Renette moved to San Francisco and started a career with Sperry Rand and retired after 20 years.
In 1959, Renette married Justin "Chris" Amato and moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., where they purchased Santa Rosa Blueprinting and operated for 25 years. Renette and Chris were divorced in 1985.
Renette began one of her many passions to travel. In Santa Rosa, she was a regular and frequent patron of the Santa Rosa bus company named "Day Trippers".
Over the years, Renette began making bi-annual trips to Europe, Caribbean, Alaska, and the United States with her sister Joan Tarnowski. In the later years, her niece and nephew Judy and Gordon Grant joined them and they traveled over the Thanksgiving holidays.
In 2004, Renette moved back to Duluth to be near her family. Renette loved the arts and culture. She held season tickets to the Duluth Symphony and the Duluth Playhouse. Also, she was a member of the Duluth Women's Club and Magna Sigma Sorority.
Renette enjoyed fine dining and red wine. She believed her glass of red wine a day was the reason for her long and lasting life. She loved having social dinners and enjoyed entertaining. Another passion was to cook a variety of unique dishes and became a self made "home gourmet chef. Renette enjoyed reading and had a collection of books and actually had her own library where these books were cataloged and organized on shelves in her apartment.
Renette was a kind, loving, forgiving, and charitable person. As well as, a successful business owner, savvy financial investor, and a well informed political advocate. Renette loved dogs and over the years she always adopted her dogs from the local Animal Humane Society.
Renette was loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Joanna Lachecki (Jankowski); her brothers Gene and Chet Lachecki; her niece Judith Marie Tarnowski Grant.
Renette is survived by her sister Joan (Lachecki); Tarnowski; her nieces and nephews Tony (Lois) Tarnowski, Beth (Craig) Ahrens, Kathy (Russ) Buran, David (Mary) Tarnowski and Steve (Lisa) Tarnowski; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday with services at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 151 W. Linden St., Duluth Heights. Burial will follow at The Polish Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. Joseph’s Church.
