Fr. Edward Foster, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at Bon Secours Hospital in Cork, Co. Cork, Ireland.
Father Foster was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Garda Station; Crosshaven, Co. Cork, Ireland to James and Norah Foster.
After graduating from All Hallows Seminary in Dublin, he was ordained for the Diocese of Duluth on June 17, 1951 by Bishop Austin Quinn at All Hallows.
Father Foster served as an Associate Pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brainerd; Our Lady of Lourdes, Virginia and St. John's Church, Duluth. In 1958 he was named pastor at St. Michael's Church in Kerrick and Our Lady of Victory, Holyoak. In 1960 he began service as pastor of Immaculate Heart Church, Crosslake and St. Emily, Emily. From 1962 to 1985 he was resident pastor of Immaculate Heart Church, then from 1985 to 1988, pastor of Immaculate Conception in Pine City. Then finally he was pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, Pine River from 1988 to his retirement in 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bob, Jim and Thomas.
Fr. Foster is survived by his brother Michael (Terry); his sister, Sister Noreen, PBVM and sisters-in-law Sheila (Bob) and Clair (Jim).
