June A. Kanz, 59, of Duluth, formerly of Lewiston, Minn., died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, in Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.
June was born June 22, 1954, in Winona, Minn., to Lyle and Marion (Stellwagen) Blanchard. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1972 and furthered her education by receiving an early childhood development degree from Rochester Vo-Tech. On Dec. 2, 1978, June and Steve Kanz were married at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston. She enjoyed working at Aldrich Memorial Nursery School and Camera Art in Lewiston. She then took on her favorite roll of being a stay-at-home mom. June enjoyed spending time on the river with her family, and also, golf, bowling and hiking.
For the past five years she has lived at the Traumatic Brain Injury Center in Duluth. June faced many health challenges in her life. Throughout her journey, her greatest purpose was making people laugh. She was a people magnet and is loved by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law Bob Kanz; and niece Katie Kanz.
June is survived by her husband, Steve; son Corey (Nicole); grandson Alexander; siblings Sid (Joyce) Blanchard of Mound, Minn., Geral Blanchard of Des Moines, Iowa, Diane (Roger) Rislow of Lewiston and Michael (Chris) Blanchard of Prior Lake, Minn.; mother-in-law Betty Kanz of Lewiston; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, and 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. funeral mass Tuesday, Oct. 29, all at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Lewiston with the Rev. Timothy Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
