Charlotte Holmes, 70, of Duluth passed away unexpectedly at St. Luke’s Hospital, due to complications after surgery, on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, with family holding her hand as she made her journey into heaven.
She was born Feb. 8, 1943 in Little Falls, Minn., to Harold and Louise Coning.
Char always had an open door, welcoming everyone with a full cup of coffee and a cookie jar filled with homemade treats. She enjoyed shopping and dining out, which often included silly antics and uncontrollable laughter. Char’s generous spirit was evident to all she were lucky enough to have known her. She retired from Viewcrest Healthcare Center after 20+ years of service. Char will be deeply missed by all.
Char was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Marilyn, Katherine, Shirley, Jack and Bonnie.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, William H. “Bill” Holmes; sons, John, Jim, William J. “Bill” and daughter and best friend, Kerisa Holmes; grandchildren, Justin, Nikki, Shayna and Dieryck; her brother, Randy (Joannee) Coning; special friend and sister-in-law, Dorie Engman; several nieces and nephews, many of whom she helped raise; and beloved dogs, Tiki and Missy.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. memorial service Friday, Oct. 18, in Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, 624-5200. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Amberwing, Animal Allies or the charity of your choice.
