Gertrude Alberta Peterson, 98, of Duluth, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, in Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Gertrude was born April 2, 1915, in Boston. On Oct. 19, 1935, Gertrude married Carl Peterson in Two Harbors. During World War II, Gertrude was a blacksmith helper while working in the Naval Yard in Vallejo, Calif. Later, Gertrude and Carl owned and operated the Norway Hotel located in Lincoln Park for five years. Gertrude also spent many years working as a waitress for the Hotel Duluth and the Duluth Arena.
Gertrude was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and dancing. She loved Duluth's fresh air, fishing, swimming and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1959; and her special friend, Casey Coban.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Roy) Trousdell, of Duluth; son Reynold (Marlene) Peterson of Minneapolis; and granddaughter Chantelle Trousdell of Maple Grove, Minn.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, in Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N. 56th Ave. W., Duluth. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
