RAYMOND LYLE ENVALL
Raymond "Ray" Lyle Envall, 76, of Proctor, passed away Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Ray's final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whose lives he had touched in his all too short time with us.
Ray was born Dec. 17, 1936, to Bert and Astrid (Bakken) Envall in Duluth. After graduating from Proctor High School and then carpentry school, he married the love of his life, Theresa Stauner. They settled in Proctor, and over the next 53 years he and Theresa raised a family of five children.
Ray will undoubtedly be remembered by many as an exceptionally gifted carpenter and builder who was blessed with uncommon vision and creativity. An honest and exceedingly hardworking man, Ray possessed an unwavering optimism for and faith in the Spirit Valley neighborhood and his beloved hometown, Proctor. Throughout his career he devoted his time and considerable talents investing in, creating and improving residential housing throughout Duluth and was a proud member of Carpenters Local 361 and a former member of the 148th Air Guard. In recent years he loved spending time with his family and his many friends at Riverplace Campground, which he and his wife, Theresa, operated.
Perhaps most, however, Ray will be remembered as a warm-hearted and loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished time with his family, friends and particularly his grandchildren of whom he was so very proud. He had an easy smile and found enjoyment in the simple pleasures in life and the companionship of others, time by the St. Louis River and cribbage games with friends. He worked hard to set an example of the virtue of being diligent, honest and considerate toward others. We will be forever grateful for our time with him. He will be sincerely and deeply missed.
He joins in Heaven, his son, Michael; granddaughter Kelsi; his parents, Burt and Astrid; his sister, Eileen; and his brother, Lloyd.
Ray is survived by his wife, Theresa; son Ron (Julie) Envall of Duluth; daughters Heidi Envall of Pine River, Minn., and Jill (Charlie) Oliveria and Kristie Envall, both of the Twin Cities; his sister, Judy (Robert) Backstrom; brother Delbert Envall; grandchildren Lindsey, Isabel, Alyssa, Jonah, Jackson and Alexander; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ray's many dear friends are cordially invited to join the family for coffee, conversation and casual remembrance: 9:30 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 16, in St. Rose Catholic Church, 3 N. 6th Ave., Proctor. Burial service at Oneota Cemetery.
