Katherine Anne Katzmarek-Rich, 64, of Hermantown, Minn., died peacefully at home on Sept. 18, 2013, surrounded by her family after a 16 month struggle with brain cancer.
Katherine was born on Sept. 15, 1949 in Duluth, Minnesota to Edmond R. and Mary M. Katzmarek. Kathie attended Stanbrook Hall in Duluth. She enjoyed boating with her parents while growing up and was later involved in both The Duluth Power Squadron and 242 Yacht Club. The majority of her life was spent raising her two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Pauli, and volunteering at the various events her daughters were involved in throughout the years. Kathie worked at the Radisson Hotel, The Hotel Duluth, various local banks, and ended her career at United Health Care. Her passion was her family. Her two daughters and two granddaughters were her world. She enjoyed the outdoors, attending craft fairs, camping, spending time with Robbie, and hosting family gatherings.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Mary Katzmarek, and her two brothers, Marty and Eddie Katzmarek, and her sister-in-law, Mary Katzmarek.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Rich-Raj, (Steven J. Raj, Jr.), and Pauline P. Rich; granddaughters, Mya Katherine Rich, (6), and Bella Elizabeth Raj, (1); her beloved Robbie Daugaard; brother Raymond "Pat" Katzmarek, (Trish Katzmarek); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
FUNERAL MASS: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24th, at St Raphael's Church, 5779 Seville Road, Duluth, MN. 55811, with visitation starting at 5:30 PM. Interment will be Thursday, September 26th at 11 AM at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth, Minnesota. Arrangements provided by Dougherty Funeral Home.
