Swen Carl Roseen, 88, passed away at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., surrounded by his family on Aug. 31, 2013.
Swen was born in Falun, Sweden on Aug. 31, 1925 to Erick and Hildur (Erickson) Roseen.
In 1927, the family came to Wisconsin and in 1929, the family moved to the Warroad, Minn., area. Swen married Violet Cole in 1953. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Patuxent River, Maryland. After serving in the Navy, Swen moved back to the Warroad farm and farmed for many years. He worked for the Minnesota State Forestry for 20 years as a mechanic until he retired in 1987.
Swen enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with the children and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking and making crafts for the family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
Swen was preceded in death by his parents, Erick and Hildur; brothers, Erick, Gust and Nels Roseen; and grandson, Kirk.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; children, Edwin (Donna) Roseen, Vickie (Ron) Carlson, Don (Sue) Roseen, June Roseen, and Scott (Kristen) Roseen; grandchildren, Heidi, Kale, Katie, Jaimie, Kelsi, Kara, Mitchel, Danielle, Grace, Hailey, Colten; great-grandchildren, Elle, Asher, and Aryn; and brother, Ben.
SERVICE: 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad. Interment will be at the America Cemetery in rural Warroad.
