Michael J. Meyer, 71, of Duluth, passed away peacefully Sunday Aug. 25, 2013 at the Minnesota Veteran’s home of Silver Bay.
He was born Feb. 7, 1942 in Ogema, Minn., to George and Gemma (Young) Meyer.
Michael attended, and graduated from Wauben High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Upon honorary discharge, he move to St. Paul where he met and in 1967 married, his beloved wife Margie Kuchenmeister. Michael studied computers at Control Data Institute. He began a career with Unisys Corp. which took them to Sioux Falls, S.D., where they had their first child. Eventually transferring to Duluth where they continued to grow and raise their family. Michael was a wonderful husband who adored and cherished his wife. He was a thoughtful man and loyal friend.
He was a proud member of the Minnesota Patriot Guards.
Michael loved to work with his hands and could fix anything. He loved to cook and collect recipes. He was a very devoted husband and hands on father. Michael coached his children’s T-Ball teams and Cub Scouts and never missed a sporting event or dance recital. He loved to spend time playing with his grandchildren and took pride in watching them grow up.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Gemma Meyer; and his brother Patrick.
Michael is survived by his wife Margie; children Chad (Rita), Chris (Jenny), Craig, and Missy (friend Roger Weinhold); grandchildren Mickey, Chandler, Jordan, Nikota, Sienna, Caiden, Alayna, Isabella, and Gemma; and step grandchildren Lexx (Charlie) Byrnes, Colton Lurye; step great-grandchildren London and Nash; three brothers, Paul (Mary), Tony, Tim (Janene); two sisters, Roberta (Leslie) Mischke, MaryJo; and many nieces and nephews.
The Meyer family would like to give a special thanks to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, Minn., Patriot Guard, and Essentia Hospice for their love, support and care for Michael.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 in St. Benedicts Church 1419 St. Benedict St. in Duluth. Burial services will follow mass at Forest Hill Cemetery. Luncheon at St. Benedict’s following burial. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 624-5200
