Jay Jackson Jakubek
1956 – 2013
Jay J. Jakubek, age 56, of Cloquet, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at home.
He was born Sept. 28, 1956, in Duluth to John and Gene (Kinney) Jakubek. Jay was united in marriage to Gail Hirdler on April 28, 2000, in Cloquet. Jay was a loving husband, father, uncle, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Growing up, Jay liked to tinker with cars, which led him to his career with Kolar. He worked for Kolar for over 30 years where he made many lifelong friends. On weekends, Jay could always be found at the cabin with his love, Gail. Hunting and fishing with friends and family were some of his favorite things to do. Some of his other hobbies include cooking, woodworking, and 4-wheeling. He was always looking for a new recipe to try and share with everyone. “That was mint,” is what you would hear if it was a good one. He created more memories whether it was relaxing around the fire at the lake or kicking back with a cold one at home. He enjoyed the simple things in life. Jay was an incredible man who would help anyone without hesitation. He had an infectious laugh and zest for life that was unmatched. There will never be a day that he is not thought about. We will carry him with us until we meet again….
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jeff Jakubek; and maternal grandmother, Esthere Kinney. He is survived by his wife, Gail; one son Cory (Katie) Jakubek; one step-daughter, Rebekah Ward; one stepson, Douglas Hirdler; one sister, Gerri (Mike) Napoli; one step-granddaughter, Kloey Jensen; numerous nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews; special friend, Larry (Rita) Rienke; and an anxiously expected grandchild.
Visitation: Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, from 6 p.m. until the 7 p.m. memorial service at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Inurnment service will be 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Oneota Cemetery. See the family online guestbook at www.nelsonfuneralcare.net
