Herbert "Herb" A. Romanek, 85, passed away the evening of Aug. 19 with his daughter at his side, after fighting a 2 ½ month life threatening infection.
Herb was born and raised in Floodwood, Minn., by Joseph and Mary Romanek along with three brothers and three sisters.
He moved to Cloquet in 1947. Herb served in the U.S. Army at Fort Breckenridge, Kentucky from 1950-1952. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Risbrudt in 1951. They made their home in Cloquet. Herb retired from Wood Conversion/Conwed Corp. in 1985. He owned and operated Romanek Saw Service until 1994.
Herb was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church for many years and since moving to Floodwood, a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Carl Anderson American Legion Post 262 of Cloquet; Eagles Aerie No. 1163, and the Conwed 25 Year Club.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine in 1994; brother, Louie; sisters, Lorette (Ed) Wayne, Teresa (Bud) Tyrell, and Rosalie Dub.
He is survived by his daughter, Jannifer (Walt) Benko; brothers, Adolph and Steve (Floss) Romanek; brother-in-law, Leo Dub; and special family and friends, Terry and Val Fick; Roy Marlow; Marina, Samantha, Lee and Alissa Marlow; Lisa Marlow; many nieces, nephews, god children; furry friend, "Jezebel" and Geri Klukas.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 in Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. The visitation will resume on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 11 a.m. until the 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Louis Catholic Church in Floodwood. Interment service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at New Calvary Cemetery in Cloquet, with Military Honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
