JOAN FRANCES (PREISS) KERR
God called His servant, Joan Frances (Preiss) Kerr, 78, home on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013. Joan passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home surrounded by family.
Jo loved the Lord and served him faithfully her whole life. She was committed to being available and found it to be a tremendous joy to serve God and others without reservation. She was an example to all of us of a life well lived and poured out through thousands of acts of kindness.
Jo was born Feb. 2, 1935 to Llewellyn and Marian (Judd) Preiss in Rockland, Mich. She was a 1953 Rockland High School graduate.
Jo was a homemaker who raised five children. She worked as a teller at North Shore State Bank, a daycare provider, and a Lester Park Elementary School lunchroom lady. She retired from State Farm in 2013 after working for over 30 years.
A former member of Lester Park United Methodist Church, Jo was a founding member of the Vineyard Church in Duluth where she faithfully served, especially enjoying her time volunteering at the Fruit of the Vine Food Shelf. She also served as the treasurer for the The Vine, Inc. (Men’s Transitional Housing) until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Howard E. Kerr; and an infant daughter, Mary Jo Kerr.
Jo is survived by her children, Clayton (Cindy) Kerr, Beth (Mike) Arbour, Julie Kerr, Lori Jones-Kerr and Sarah (Dan) Woods; grandchildren Allyson, Tyra and Andrew Kerr, Joey and Jack Arbour, Riley and Hanna Jones and Maya Woods; brothers Robert, Merrill, Jerry and Kenneth Preiss; her sister, Patricia (Preiss) Petersen; brother-in-law Donald Kerr; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to St. Mary’s Sharon “Sherri” McDonnell-Guimont, RN, CNP and St. Mary’s hospice services.
