Marlene Sue Schaefer, 61, of Grand Rapids, Minn., passed on to the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at her home after a six-year battle with cancer.
Marlene was born in 1951 to Ray and Betty Jones.
She was the youngest of eight children and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1969. She was united in marriage to Keith Erholtz in 1971 and was a house wife and raised three children. She also worked as a home health aide. Marlene later went back to college and earned a teaching degree from Bemidji State University. She substitute taught in the area for several years and worked as an Early Head Start teacher. She married Ron Schaefer on Jan. 19, 2008. They made their home in Pengilly and Grand Rapids.
She was an active member of the Grand Rapids Alliance Church. Marlene was head of the Fellowship Committee, served on the Diaconate Committee and taught Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two nieces.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, K. Andrew (Sarah Joy) Erholtz, Leif Erholtz and Ali (Chad Grotberg); step-son, Jerry (Becky) Schaefer; five brothers, Dick, Allen (Joanne) Bert, Jerel (Jane) and Dean (Sherry) Jones; two sisters, Diane (Gordon) Hansen and Barb (Rick) Guertin; many nieces and nephews; and six grandchildren, Alyssa, Hanna, Grace, Joy, Elsie and Knowles.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, for two hours until the 1 p.m. Funeral Service in the Grand Rapids Alliance Church. The Rev. Todd Block will officiate.
