John H. “Swede” Hanson Jr., 89, of Hermantown, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Solvay Hospice House with his family by his side.
Swede was born in Solway Township on Oct. 10, 1923 to John Sr. and Anna (Mandelholm) Hanson.
He worked for Carl Sandstrom and Sons for 29 years as well as several other area contractors. Swede loved to make rosettes and jellies for friends and neighbors during Christmas time.
He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Mildred, Herb, Elmer, Irene and Mabel.
Swede is survived by his wife Vera of 64 years; children, Richard (Nancy), Liz Warren, Deb (Scott) Massie; grandchildren, Dylan Hanson, Amie Warren and Kyle Claus; great-granddaughter Lily Claus as well as many extended family members and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Solvay for all of their wonderful care.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth. Military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Animal Allies Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
