Katherine Marana, 93, of Duluth, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in the Solvay Hospice House.
She was born on Jan. 10, 1920 in Chisholm, Minn., to Matt and Mary Julance.
She moved to Duluth in 2000 and lived at the Lenox Place, St. Ann’s Residence and then with her daughter and son-in-law in Duluth. She graduated from Chisholm High School and in 1941 married Albert Marana. Katherine lived in Chisholm most of her life and raised her three children there.
She loved to do crossword puzzles, read, pick berries, crocheting and sewing. She socialized with family and friends and was a member of the Senior Citizens Club in Chisholm, Over 59 Club in Chisholm and the Lenox Club in Duluth. She had a kind heart and empathy for those less fortunate.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; six brothers and sisters; a grandson, Alexander Albert Marana; a great grandson, Brett Marana and her son-in-law, Gary Byce.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Byce of Stow, Ohio; son, Doug Marana of Long Prairie, Minn., and daughter, Alberta Marana (Mick McDonnell) of Duluth; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
