James Haigh Champion, 87, of Mountain Iron, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Diamond Willow in Mountain Iron.
James Champion was born Dec. 16, 1925 in Hibbing, Minn., to James and Ruby (Haigh) Champion.
He graduated from Hibbing H.S. in 1943 and served in the Naval Reserves from 1944-45. James was united in marriage to Jean Gordon on Dec. 12, 1953 in Virginia, Minn. They lived in Hibbing for four years before moving to Virginia, where they raised their family. James started working for Saranen's Inc. in 1956 and worked until his retirement.
James was a member of United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed his family foremost and watching the Minnesota Twins.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; his parents and two brothers; Chester and David.
He is survived by children, James G (Nancy) of Albuquerque, N.M., Larry of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Peggy Champion (Mark Thorp) of Cotton, Minn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Diamond Willow for their exceptional care of Jim.
