Peggy Jane (Bartness) Dean, 93, died in Chicago March 19. A schoolteacher and homemaker, she lived in the Twin Ports for three quarters of a century.
After graduating from UWS, she did graduate study at Marquette. She taught in public schools in Hammond, Ind.; Fairfield, Mich.; Minneapolis and Superior and assessed practice teachers in Duluth.
She was married to Bob Dean for over 50 years (1954-2006) until his death. They had three children: Scott (wife Carolyn) a career diplomat in Washington, DC, Craig (wife Kelly) of Chicago and daughter Lisa of Minneapolis.
She was an active gardener and member of the Duluth Garden Club, UMD for Seniors, Duluth Women's Club and Marketeers Club. She designed a lake residence the family owns in Solon Springs, Wis. She enjoyed travel in Spain, Mexico, Latvia, Russia, Sweden, Britain and France.
She is survived by her children; her grandchildren (father Scott): Margaret, age four and Robert, age five months; and over a dozen nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
SERVICE: 12 Noon Saturday, July 20, in Holy Rosary Cathedral. Reception an graveside prayers to follow. She is buried by her husband at Forest Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
