Nancy Nyquist Braun born on February 5, 1941 as a third generation Park Pointer. Our parents were friends and officers in the Park Point American Legion Post 585. We grew up together in the 3400 & 3500 blocks on Minnesota Ave. and went thru school together graduating from Duluth Central High School.
In our teen years she wouldn’t have much to do with me. After graduation she went away and I went away. We both came home and it was love at first sight. We married, have three daughters and went on a 45 year adventure together with many activities and world travels that it would take a book to tell all the stories. One of her favorite times was the three years that she got to go shopping with actress Janet Leigh.
She spent the first 15 years of our marriage raising four children…….Our three daughters (Shanda-Nichole- Victoria) and me (Richard). Then she started flying airplanes at Sky Harbor Airport, became its receptionist and served on the Duluth Airport Authority. After that she started her Vending Machine Business operating it for the last 25 years. Not to stop there she oversaw our Vacation Home Business thru the 2011 season.
She helped build institutions in this community and they have sustained. It started with the Park Point Art Fair, The Breeze and The Garage Sale. Nancy was the second Grandma’s Marathon volunteer Equipment manager and a founding Board Member of the North Shore InLine Marathon which she skated. Nancy has supported the UMD Labovitz School of Business & Economics for many years and has a Team Room in the LSBE building that bears her name. She also established an Annual Entrepreneurship Scholarship to assist deserving undergraduate students with demonstrated entrepreneurial interest and motivation to own and operate a business.
In the final years our buckets became empty and disease set in taking us away from our adventures and activities but not from our love for each other. Nancy’s final birthday was on Super Bowl Sunday….She had ties to the Minnesota Vikings thru Bill Brown and Fran Tarkington going to games with their wives.
Nancy’s life came to an end in love with her family and friends.
The family will have A PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE. Nancy was a proud, private women and she would not want her death to be an event. Nancy loved animals and in all of her travels we went horseback riding and visited almost every ZOO we could find.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made in memory of Nancy Nyquist Braun to the Lake Superior Zoo.
