Ronald J. McPhail, 66, passed away on June 12, 2013 at his lake home in Cromwell with his wife Patti at his side following a recent diagnosis of kidney, pancreatic and liver cancer.
Ron was born in Alexandria, Minn., on June 24, 1946 to James and Pearl (Viola) McPhail.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria and enlisted in the Army following graduation. He served four years and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. Ron was part of the Thursday night group at the Duluth VA Center for years.
Ron was a Member of Teamsters 346. He drove truck for 35+ years working over the road and for Transport Inc., Indianhead and Glacier Paving retiring in 2006.
Ron loved the outdoors spending his time fishing, hunting, gardening, planting trees, enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. He was a member of the Iron Range Chapter Spearing/Angling Association. He was President of the Spearing/Angling Association Duluth Chapter for many years and was an avid fisherman known as “Big Crappie” to family and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father James; his first wife Susan and his nephew Adam Sordahl.
He is survived by his wife Patti; stepchildren Cari, Cassi, Cami, Jason and Tom. He leaves behind grandchildren Kyler, Cooper, Mason, Colin and the “Twinks” Braelyn and Nolan; his mother, Pearl; brother, Gary (Carol); and sisters, Cindy (John) Sordahl, Colleen (Bruce) LaCombe and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.
His buddy “Norma Jean” who was always by his side.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 until the 11 a.m. service in Cromwell Pavilion/Community Center, Cromwell, Minn. Service Officated by Pastor Lori Peters.
Luncheon following the Service. Military Honor Guard will be accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Private Family Burial.
