James Lowell Claflin, 63, of Duluth, passed away on June 14, 2013.
James was born in Duluth on Jan. 5, 1950 to Lowell and Patricia (Gray) Claflin.
James served his country honorably from 1970-1973 being stationed in Germany from 71-73. After his return he worked as a welder for American Hoist and Derrick and later Duluth Water and Gas (Comfort Systems) until his retirement. James enjoyed watching stock car races as well as being part of the pit crew and driving. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, hearts and pinochle. Family gatherings with aunt Nancy (Jack) Majaski, uncle Tom (Rita) Gray, nephew Brad (Tiffany) Wigton, cousins Rachel (Bob) Bugbee, Mark Majaski and Jill (Eric) Anderson, were always special.
He is preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Ron and Harriet Gray and Pearl Bayer and George Claflin.
James is survived by son Zachary Claflin of Shoreview, Minn.; daughter Erika (Jeremiah) Johnson of Duluth; grandchildren, Seth, Isaac and Sawyer; mother and stepfather Patricia and LeRoy Lassard; sister Kathy (George) Pegjoff; siblings, Jamie Claflin, Mike (Barb) Claflin; Jill (Dave) Wall, Dan (Peggy) Claflin, Laurie (Richard) Shadley and Scott Claflin; many nieces and nephews as well as many other extended family members and friends.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 12 Noon Friday, June 21, 2013, with refreshments served, until the 1 p.m. memorial service on Friday, June 21, 2013 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church 4831 Grand Ave. Duluth. Inurnment will be held at Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
