Jane Margaret Fleskes, 69, of Duluth passed away on May 10, 2013 in Sun City West, Ariz., after a feisty battle with cancer.
Jane was born in Carroll, Iowa on Dec. 19, 1943.
She grew up in Mount Carmel helping with the family grocery store and bar business, her first job. Jane graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1961, then Iowa State University in 1967 with a degree in Child Development. Jane's caring and love of life enriched the lives of many. She started her career as a social worker in Hibbing working for St. Louis County, worked at Head Start in Minneapolis, and then for the State of Minnesota doing daycare licensure. In 1978 she returned to St. Louis County and worked in senior adult services until retiring in 2004. Jane was instrumental in developing the adult foster care program, "Homes Plus".
Jane was a person who treasured her friends and family and was the life of the party. Jane loved ice cream, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending winters in Arizona. She danced with the "Rhythm Tappers" in SCW and the "Top Hat Dancers" in Duluth.
Jane volunteered at Second Harvest food bank and supported the Rights of the Unborn. She volunteered at St. John's and St. Joseph's as a parish visitor. Jane's spiritual life was enriched with Bible study and daily prayer.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lucille Fleskes, and infant sister, Theresa.
Jane is survived by her husband of 28 years, Michael Erickson; daughter, Leah Erickson; stepsons, Shane Erickson (Heather Rappana) and Bryce (Rebecca) Erickson; grandchildren, Orion, Olivia, Ozell, and Olani (the four O's); brothers, Bob (Elaine) Fleskes and Joe (Cindy) Fleskes; sisters, Cindy (Robert) Post and Mavis (Blair) Gagne; her beloved sister-in-law and best friend, Judy (Larry) Hurtig and many other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her love and laughter.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, in St. John's Catholic Church in Duluth. Visitation at 10 a.m. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
