Beverly Louise Sutherland, 84, of Superior, Wis. died April 16, 2013 at Essentia Health-St. Mary, Duluth, Minn.
She was born May 28, 1928 in Superior to Edith (Cannelin) and Thomas Shaw.
Bev was a U.W.S. graduate with a master's degree and was employed as a teacher and principal in the Superior School District retiring in 1989. After her retirement she worked as a Field Rep for the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and was active in several community groups.
She married James Emanuel Sutherland in July of 1948 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Shaw, Jr. and a sister, Marilyn Shaw.
Surviving are her daughters, Debra (Jeffery) Bloomquist of Superior and Della (Charles) Pleski of Foxboro, Wis.; a son, James (Susan) Sutherland of Ely, Minn.; grandchildren, Jacob, Julie, Todd, Karen, Kristen and Kathleen; great-grandchildren, James, Phoebe, Bjorn and Martin.
Bev really enjoyed travelling and golfing. Her travels included cruises her sister, daughter and granddaughter; overseas travel with her son and daughter-in-law; and travel to see friends and relatives. She took up golfing after she retired and was quite active in the women's golf leagues at Nemadji Golf Course.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel in Spooner, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Superior Area Retired Educators Association Scholarship Fund.
