Mary Ann Weber of Edina passed away unexpectedly at home on May 13, 2013.
Mary Ann was born in Cloquet. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ron Weber. Mary Ann lived life to the fullest and was energetic and active with a youthful spirit. She will be greatly missed.
Mary Ann attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD) studying Fine Arts and receiving an honorary doctorate. She was crowned the Duchess of Duluth, Snow Queen, and worked as a fashion model. She had not only beauty but business acumen: she was Treasurer/Secretary of R.W. Weber Sales, and she was on the board of Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank.
Mary Ann was a highly accomplished concert pianist performing at MacPhail Center for Music, and further shared her musical gift as a cellist in the Duluth Orchestra. She was a competitive tennis player and golfer. She was involved in various organizations such as garden club, bridge club, book club, and she enjoyed attending church, concerts and lectures.
Mary Ann was highly committed to philanthropy, particularly in Duluth. She was instrumental in creating the Weber Music Hall at UMD designed by famed architect Cesar Pelli. She sponsored many Music Scholarship endowments at UMD. She was a major contributor to the Weber Stream Initiative and the Great Lakes Aquarium.
Mary Ann was a member of Interlachen Country Club, Bonita Bay Golf Club, the Northland Country Club and the Presidents Club of the University of Minnesota.
Mary Ann was passionately involved in interior design. She was well known for entertaining with a sophisticated and creative flair for style. She enjoyed organizing and attending social events and gatherings that brought family and friends that she loved closer together.
Mary Ann is survived by daughters Jeanne (David) Dentzel, Lisa Weber, and Maribeth Weber (Robert) Marchi; son Craig (Melanie) Weber; as well as grandchildren Charlie Dentzel, Sean Hutchison, Kristen Hutchison, Lucas Weber Marchi, June Weber, and Vaughn Weber.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. until the 12 noon funeral service Thursday, May 23, in Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave. South, Minneapolis, (612) 926-7651 (www.mtolivet.org).
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to donor's choice.
