Mae Viola Raushel, 88, of Big Sandy Lake, McGregor died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.
She was born Jan. 18, 1925 in Chisholm. Her parents were Mario and Angela (Maturi) Paoli.
She graduated from Chisholm High School in 1943 and attended Hibbing Jr. College.
She graduated from the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul in 1947 with a major in Psychology and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Masters in Library Science. Mae was united in marriage to Frank S. Raushel on Aug. 20, 1947 in Chisholm. She lived in Cloquet for many years before moving to Big Sandy Lake, McGregor. Mae and her husband owned and operated Savanna Industries and Savanna Pallets of McGregor, Minn.
She was a past member of the Cloquet Public Library Board and McGregor Library Board and a member of the McGregor Flower Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank S. Raushel in 1997; brother Raymond Paoli in 1988; sister Angelyn (Honey) Dinquell in 2012; mother Angela Viola Urbiha in 1978; and father Mario Paoli in 1965.
Mae is survived by son, Dr. Frank M. Raushel (Norene) of College Station, Texas; daughter, Virginia A. Evans (Michael) of Piedmont, Calif.; son, Lawrence S. Raushel (Jeanne) of Palisade, Minn.; son, Douglas C. Raushel (Jan) of Aitkin, Minn.; son, Allen T. Raushel (Robyn) of Cloquet, Minn.; son, Andrew M. Raushel (Cherly) of Jacobson, Minn.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 until the 11 a.m. funeral Service in Grace Lutheran Church, McGregor. Reverend Erika Foss will officiate. Burial will be at Pine Needle Cemetery. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the McGregor Library.
