Glenn Howard Mellesmoen, 93, formerly of Duluth, and Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, Minn., passed away Saturday April 6, 2013 in New Hope, Minn.
He was born in Fosston, Minn. on April 1, 1920.
Glenn was a Navy Veteran of World War II, attended Dunwoody Institute, and was a journeyman electrician for 38 years and a union member. He loved to work; whatever job that needed to be done, he was there as the foreman, including gardening and eating sardines.
He was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Duluth, and a Boy Scout leader for many years achieving the Silver Beaver Award for service. Glenn taught electrical apprenticeship classes at the Duluth Vocational School. In Glenn’s last days on Earth, he spoke about his love for the land, his farm in Fosston and the horses that plowed the fields. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by infant son Duane; parents Bennie and Clara and siblings Arvid and Clayton.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Esther; sons Donald (Rosanne), Gerald (Cinthia), Gregory, Mark (Shairoz); daughter, Beverly (Michael); sisters Shirley Holmes and Patricia Wunderlich; grandchildren, Alesha, Michael, Tiffany, Luke, Nicholas, Rolf, Marta, Aaron, Jasmin, Shayna, Hannah, Nameera, Alison; great grandchildren Haley, Aeowyn, Fiona, Avienda, and Kristin and Family in Norway.
Thanks to Dr. John Ipsen for his exceptional medical care while Glenn lived in Duluth.
Glenn spent his last year at Minnesota Masonic Home North Ridge in New Hope, Minn., where he was spectacularly cared for by a compassionate and dedicated staff. The family wants to thank all staff for taking excellent care of Glenn.
