Harold J. Froom, 87 of Minneapolis, died Tuesday April 2, 2013 in Minneapolis.
He was a 1944 graduate of Duluth Denfeld who lived in Duluth until 1961.
Harold served honorably in the Navy during World War II starting the day after his High School graduation. After his discharge he attended Duluth Business University and he worked in purchasing for over 20 years at the Wolvan Building and in the Twin Cities. He finished his career as a employee of the Minneapolis Post Office.
A true baseball fan, he served as an umpire, coach, played fastpitch softball and lived for his beloved Minnesota Twins and his son and grandsons games. His joy of sports extended into all areas. A charter season ticket of the Minnesota Vikings in 1961, he purchased his tickets from former Duluth Eskimos owner Ole Haugsrud. He was a hockey goalie whose friends referred to him as "Harry the Cat" for his quick reflexes.
Preceded in death by wife of 42 years Betty; his parents and siblings Lois, Lorraine, and Jack all originally of Duluth all have passed on.
"Tuda" is survived by son John (Nancy); grandsons Ryan and Kyle and brother Jim (Sharon).
A special thank you to Mary Kelve and the great staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home for the fine care he received over the last five years. Thanks to Shalom Hospice Care for the caring end-of-life services they provided the last six months.
