Wilbert Oscar “Bill” Thompson, 80, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 in Duluth.
He was born April 30, 1932 in Cloquet to Robert E. and Edith (Peterson) Thompson.
Bill grew up on a farm east of Mahtowa. He graduated from Barnum High School in 1949. Bill worked for the Wood Conversion in Cloquet then enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1952 to 1956. He was stationed in London, England and had a Top Secret Clearance and was in Communications. After the service he worked for several companies in Minnesota and spent 10 years in Wyoming before he retired.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert S. and Merle R. Thompson.
He is survived by his brother, Vernon A (Armida); sister-in-law, Jean Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Fireside Room of the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Inurnment will be at Mount Salem Cemetery in the spring. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carlton VFW Honor Guard.
