Jennie Esther Waisanen, 89, of Wright died Friday, March 22, 2013 while on vacation in Florida. After a two day hospitalization, Jennie went from the arms of her daughter, Bonnie, into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Jennie was born on April 27, 1923 to Jacob and Sophia Walli in Lakeview Township.
She grew up in the Lakeside area and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1941. Jennie worked at A.C. Sparkplug in Flint, Mich., and at Puget Sound Power and Light in Seattle, Wash., during World War II. She married Kenneth R. Harp on June 22, 1946 in Duluth. They lived together in the Wright community until Kenny's death in 1984. Jennie then married Arvo P. Waisanen on April 1st, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nev., and returned to Jennie's home to live in the Wright community. They were married for 10 years until Arvo's death in 1996.
Jennie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, neighbor and friend. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, kindness, good cooking and music.
Jennie was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church; an active member of the Lakeside Community Club and the Wright Senior Citizens. She enjoyed serving others by teaching Sunday School and playing the organ at her church; and currently volunteered at the Clothing Depot.
Jennie played the accordion in the Wright Notes Band for 10 years. She cooked at Cromwell High School, the Wright Cafe and the Barnum Music Camp. She was a world traveler and enjoyed going anywhere at anytime. Jennie especially enjoyed visiting her family and brought along her favorite recipes to cook and share with them.
Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Kenneth and Arvo; brothers, Eino, Ernie, Art, Henry; and sisters, Ida, Laura and Elma.
Jennie is survived by son, Dan (Nancy) Harp; daughter Bonnie (Arnie) Kahara; grandchildren, Chrissy (Pat) Prigge, Aimee (Dan) Reehoff, Bryan (Alicia) Harp, Andy (Beth) Kahara, and Eric Harp; great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Joshua, Sophia and Evelyn Prigge, Bryce and Cole Reehoff, Paige and Brylee Harp, and Caden, Audrey and Hailee Kahara. She is also survived by her siblings, Arne Walli, Carl (Norma) Walli, Sulo (Delores) Walli, Reino (Donna) Walli; sisters-in-law, Shirley Walli and Mary Anne Cestkowski; and beloved nieces and nephews.
CELEBRATION AND MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 in the Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St. in Cloquet. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
