Theodore "Ted" Troolin passing from this earth on March 23, 2013.
He was born on Nov. 22, 1920 in Sandstone, Minn,
Ted was always creative and hardworking, joining the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC's) at the age of 17; next enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving as an air navigator in World War II; then returning to work for the Minnesota Highway Department for 36 years. He was a Registered Land Surveyor, ending his career as District Location Engineer in Duluth.
Ted credits the CCC's as being a wonderful growth and development experience. There he learned how to work with and appreciate others. With that foundation he went on to seek out ways to be a mentor, a teacher, a volunteer and a friend. He was a former commander of the Mora American Legion, and an active member of the VFW of Cloquet, the Zion Lutheran Church, the Masons and the Kiwanis.
Looking back, Ted would have been a landscaper or a gardener. He loved all things outdoors and was constantly working the soil and the trees. He loved his cabin and how it connected him with nature. He was never more at home then when he was at the lake, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Lorraine (Dietz); daughters Karen (Doug Nute) and Pat (Dan Learn); sons Tom (Kate Cannon) and Ted (Martha McEnary); eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a sister Marie Hultstrand. Ted was a dedicated, humble and compassionate son, husband, father and friend to all. He was as proud of all his family as they are of him.
Ted was forever shining his charmingly, impish smile on all. This is a man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
