JOHN DONALD RUNQUIST

John Donald Runquist, 76 of Floodwood died Monday, March 18, 2013 in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell.

John Donald Runquist, 76 of Floodwood died Monday, March 18, 2013 in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell.

He was born Sept. 22, 1936 in Duluth to Anna Runquist.

John enlisted in the Army in 1956 and served for two years before returning to Floodwood. He worked for LTV Steel in Calumet, Aurora, and Grand Rapids working in the mines as a diesel mechanic. He retired due to a disability in 1986.

John was a member of the Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making firewood, and spending time outdoors. After his retirement he enjoyed going to auctions to the point he was known as the “auction nut” and he retained the same auction number for every Reinhardt auction. He also collected guns since 1952.

John was preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Bobo” Runquist; and one grandson, Travis Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Deanna; one daughter, Brenda (Ron) Davis of Floodwood; three sons, Jay of Duluth, Scott (Shannon Albers) of Toivola, and Jeff (Corri) of Duluth; one brother, Richard (June) Runquist of Floodwood; mother-in-law, Arlene Beckman of Floodwood; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.

The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Vista Care Center for their excellent and personal care for John.

VISITATION: 12 Noon until the 1 p.m. Memorial Service Saturday, March 23, 2013 in the New Life Community Church in Floodwood. Inurnment will be in the spring at Cedar Valley Cemetery. So sorry to hear of John's passing. John worked with my husband Roger for many years. They also shared rides to Aurora for a time. Roger liked going to the auctions also. I met John several times when I went with Roger. They sure did enjoyed getting together and talking about "the guys" as much as they enjoyed the auctions. Blessings to you family. Joan Strom

Sorry to hear of John's passing. He worked with my husband Roger for so many years. Roger also enjoyed going to auctions. I met John several times when I went with Roger. They so enjoyed not only the auctions but meeting up with "the guys"

Runquist Family: We were so sorry to hear about John's passing. John was a familiar face at our gun shows here in Duluth for many years and we probably sold him or bought guns from him over the years. Please accept our condolences. Bob and Barb White/Greysolon Arms
