Bonnie Jeanne Dinehart 67, of Carlton passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 in her home with her loving family by her side.

Bonnie Jeanne Dinehart 67, of Carlton passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 in her home with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Duluth on June 19, 1945 to Leo and Evelyn (Nelson) Olesiak.

In 1947 the family moved from Duluth to the farm in Brookston. Bonnie lived there until she went away to college at the U of M, St. Paul. She graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Horticultural Science in December 1967. While in college, she worked at the U of M Landscape Arboretum in Chanhassen and Leben’s Greenhouses in St. Paul. Her career in horticulture began at the U of M Duluth in January 1968 when she took over the new octagonal greenhouse for the biology department. While at UMD she maintained the plant collection, collected new plants needed by the department and had many teaching moments with school children from around Duluth. She also taught CEE classes in Horticulture. Bonnie married Dave on February 23, 1974 and left her job at UMD in 1977 to raise children. The family moved to Carlton in 1978. She taught the Horticulture program at D.A.V.T.I. for 8 years. She worked for WLSSD for 2 years, taught the Horticulture program at Moose lake Corrections for 8 years, served as the crew leader at NERCC for 2 years and was Carlton Community Education Director for 7 years retiring in November 2012. She was a member Northwood United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed volunteering with the 4-H program.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Larry; grandparents, Amy and Lester Nelson and Katharine and Tony Olesiak; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dave; her children, Holly (Tony) Compo, Kyle (Ellison) Dinehart, and Daisy (Dave) Rose; grandchildren, Avery and Aubrey Compo, Lawrence Dinehart and his sibling who is due in August; step-grandchildren, Emily, Amber, and Cayne Compo, and Zoey Larson; siblings, Dennis (Darlene) Olesiak, Rodney (Joanne) Olesiak, Beverly (Melvin) Stoddard, Jeff Olesiak, Donna Olesiak and their families.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE: includes visitation from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 in Northwood United Methodist Church, 62 W. Hwy 61, Esko. Visitation will continue from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, March 5, 2013 in Asbury United Methodist Church, 6822 Grand Ave., Duluth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Northwood United Methodist Church, or Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. Burial will be in the spring in Culver Cemetery, Culver. I like to remember people by thinking what was learned from them; Bonnie taught us all how to treat other people well and show sincere interest in them. She had a beautiful way to help us learn by example. Kent Worley
