MARJORIE GWENDOLYN MARTER

Marjorie Gwendolyn Marter, 95, Grand Rapids, formerly of Nashwauk, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in Grand Village, Grand Rapids.

Born April 29, 1917 in Taconite, she was the daughter of Thomas and Guyra “Belle” (Davis) Phillips.

Marge was raised in Taconite, graduated from Greenway High School, and later attended the Minnesota School of Business. She was united in marriage to Eugene “Jim” Marter on June 15, 1938, in Marble and they made their home in Nashwauk. Marge had worked at the Itasca County Courthouse, as a secretary for the Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company in Hibbing, and as the City Clerk of Nashwauk.

She was a member of Nashwauk United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Swan Lake Country Club, and the Nashwauk Golden Age Club. Although Marge and Jim had no children, their nieces and nephews and their families were close to them.

She was preceded her in death by her husband, Jim Marter, in 1979; her parents; sisters, Rosalie Willman and Madge Jennings; and brother, Edward “Budge” Phillips.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Helen Juntunen of Plymouth, Minn.; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, March 2, 2013 in the Nashwauk United Methodist Church. Interment will be at the Nashwauk Cemetery.
