Ellis "Bud" Tormondsen of Tofte passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, in Ecumen Scenic Shores Care Center in Two Harbors.
Bud died peacefully with his daughter and son by his side.
Bud was born May 5, 1922, to Chris and Matelda Tormondsen in Tofte. After his education from Cook County High School, Bud enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He became a sea marine on the battleship USS Colorado. After his discharge, he resumed his career in commercial fishing on Lake Superior.
Bud married Blanche Stepan in 1945 and moved to Tofte to raise his family. He later worked as a boilermaker throughout Minnesota and the Midwest. After his retirement, Bud and Blanche enjoyed summer trips to Isle Royale and winter trips to Florida and Texas. Bud loved feeding his friends, the deer and the birds.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche; parents Chris and Matelda; brothers Roger, Billy, and Charles; and sisters Ivy and Sissy.
Bud is survived by his son, Dale (Rachel) Tormondsen of Tofte; daughter Cathy Tormondsen of Tofte; grandchildren Dale Tormondsen Jr. of Tofte, Melody (John) Morgan of Alexandria, Minn., and Monica (Eric) Christensen of Stoughton, Wis.; and great-grandchildren Olivia, Riley, Cambelle, Hayden, and Kennedy.
Memorial service and burial will be scheduled later in the spring.
