Winifred M. Sarette, 100, and formerly of Cloquet, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at her home at St. Ann's Residence in Duluth.
Winifred M. Sarette, 100, and formerly of Cloquet, died peacefully in her sleep Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at her home at St. Ann's Residence in Duluth.
She was born Dec. 23, 1912 in London, England.
She served in the British Women's Royal Air Force during World War II. During the war she met and married William (Buck) Sarette of Cloquet, and immigrated to the United States in 1946. Winifred was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, Legion of Mary, National Council of Catholic Women, Duplicate Bridge Club, and was a church lector for many years. She worked as an Avon representative earning numerous sales awards, and served on the resident's council at St. Ann's. Winifred believed that life is a gift from God, and that we should use that gift to help others. She made a practice of being thankful, and she finished her life believing that not one bad thing had ever happened to her in all her hundred years.
Winifred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William (Buck) Sarette; one son, Michael Sarette; one brother, Ernest Tilson; and three sisters, Emily Tilson, Doreen Fleet and Eileen Tilson.
She is survived by two sons, John (Linda) Sarette of Duluth and William "Bill" (Barbara) Sarette of Inver Grove Heights; two daughters, Catherine Sarette of Bellingham, Wash., and Doreen (Wayne) Gross of Circle Pines, Minn.; and daughter-in-law Bernice (Michael) Gottschalk of Brewerton, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Jonnia Sarette, Johanna (Dustin) Johnson, Paul Sarette, Amanda (Doug) Sundin, Amber (David Mech II) Gross and Desa (Jacob) Heck; and six great-grandchildren, David Mech III, Liana Mech, Raymond Mech, Miles Sundin, Amelia Sundin, and Kaylee Heck.
VISITATION: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 until the 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann's Residence Chapel, followed with meal and time of fellowship. Memorials are preferred to St. Ann's Residence. The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet to assist them with arrangements. See the family online guest book at www.nelsonfuneralcare.net
