David Suzick, 84, Keewatin, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Guardian Angels in Hibbing after a short stay at Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing.
David Suzick, 84, Keewatin, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Guardian Angels in Hibbing after a short stay at Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing.
He was born on Dec. 5, 1928 in Keewatin to John and Harriet (Verity) Suzick the youngest of four siblings, John, Mary, and William (Schmick).
Mr. Suzick joined the service at age 17, serving in the occupation force in Japan and the Korean Theater for seven years. While home on leave in November 1951 for his father’s funeral he met Mary Knezovich of Leetonia. They were married on Jan. 19, 1952. He has had many jobs including working in Keewatin as a policeman and a bartender at the Municipal Liquor. David retired in 1990 from Itasca Road and Bridge as a grader operator out of the Nashwauk garage.
He was past commander of the American Legion Post No. 452 in Keewatin and continued as a member for 32 years. He was a member of VFW Post No. 5516 in Keewatin, past member of the Retired Men’s Club in Keewatin, a served on the City Council, and on the Police Board for the City of Keewatin. David was a member of AFSCME retiree’s chapter 65 in Nashwauk.
Surviving along with his wife of 62 years, Mary; his six children Dave, Keewatin, Joe (Brenda), Hibbing, Pam (John) Brust, Hibbing, Mike, Keewatin, Sandi, Hibbing and Steve (Christine), Superior, Wis.; six grandchildren, Matt and Lynlee Suzick, David (Sara) Brust, Samantha Suzick, Alex and Alyssa Suzick, and Bradley Burke; one great grandson Dreydan Brust, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Bill; sister, Mary; nephew, Bruce Churack and beloved dog Missy, his third daughter.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Guardian Angels in Hibbing, and St Michael’s Center in Virginia; the doctors, nurses and staff at Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing, and St. Mary’s Essentia Health in Duluth for their continued medical care, support and hard work they provided our father over the last 16 months.
SERVICE: 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Gabriel Waweru celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Dougherty Funeral Home and continue Thursday in Church starting at 12 Noon. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
