Derek Allen Mathias Burg, 27 of Kettle River died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.
He was born July 10, 1985, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, to Mark and Vickie Burg. He grew up in Willow River and graduated from Willow River High School in 2004. In high school he was active in football, baseball and basketball.
For the past two years, Derek worked for Hanco Utilities in Superior. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, mud bogging, snowmobiling and playing poker.
Derek was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Darold Burg and Kenneth Lind; niece, Payton Waldemarsen; and cousin, Brandon Laine.
He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his parents, Mark and Vickie Burg of McGregor; sister Tabatha (Eric) Waldemarsen of Cromwell; grandmothers, Pat (Leslie Metso) Schleret of Sawyer and Amy Burg of Buffalo; his significant other and best friend, Lacy Lundin of Kettle River; Lacy’s parents, Lance and Cathy Lundin of Cromwell; and several aunts, uncles, cousin; and many friends.
