Joseph Francis Yukich, 86, Kelly Lake, Minn. died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at the Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing.

Joseph Francis Yukich, 86, Kelly Lake, Minn., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at the Fairview University Medical Center in Hibbing.

He was born in Carson Lake, Minn., on March 31, 1926 to Steve and Francis (Dejak) Yukich.

Joe was drafted out of Hibbing High School in 1944 served his country in the Navy on the U.S.S. Corson (AVP-37) and was honorably discharged on June 8, 1946. Joe worked at National Steel Pellet Co. in Keewatin as a Shovel Operator and retired in 1976 after 30 years of service. Many days were enjoyed at Joe’s garage where friends and family would gather to share memories, and tell stories, while Joe was usually busy repairing someone’s car.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Yukich.

Joe is survived by longtime special companion, Barbara Johnson and her family; sister-in-law, Christine Yukich, and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013 in the Dougherty Funeral Home with visitation for one hour before the service. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
