Robert N. Rom, 81 of Aitkin died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Robert N. Rom, 81 of Aitkin died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Bob was born March 10, 1931 at Aitkin, Minn., the son of Norman and Lillie (Jackman) Rom.

He grew up and attended schools in the Aitkin area graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1949. He then attended the University of Minnesota for a year. He returned home and worked on the farm and started Rom Poultry Farm in 1950. He delivered eggs across northern Minnesota. He married Irma D. Redlich on Aug. 6, 1955 at Nye, Wis. They made their home in Aitkin and he has lived here his whole life.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin where he had served as a deacon and also on the building committee. Bob was a charter member that helped revive the Cedar Lake Norwegian Lutheran Church in 1972.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Irma Rom of Aitkin; children and spouses: Dave (Erin) Rom of Aitkin, Kevin (Darcy) Rom of Aitkin, Mike (Teresa) Rom of Little Fork, Minn., Rebecca (Paul) Zenke of Aitkin; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. David Becker officiating. Burial will be at the Dorris Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the church. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin. www.srtfuneral.com.
