RONALD THOMAS SHAW

Ronald Thomas Shaw, 71, of Duluth, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at his home.

Ronald Thomas Shaw, 71, of Duluth, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at his home.

Ron was born Sept. 7, 1941 in Duluth to Jule and Elizabeth (Jurkanis) Shaw, Jr.

He grew up in Duluth and was a graduate of Cathedral High School. In his youth, Ron enjoyed golfing, and worked as a caddy at Northland Country Club. He began his life working for Zenith News.

He then met the love of his life, Sandra McLeod - they married on May 20, 1961. Ron and Sandy had 51 loving years together. Ron went on to work for American Linen and they began their family.

Ron was a passionate man who enjoyed his many hobbies. He was a life member of the NRA, a proud member of the United Northern Sportsman, an avid league shooter with the Hightower skeet and trap leagues, a former member of the el toro car club, a boy scout/eagle scout leader, and he enjoyed league bowling. Mostly though, was the time he spent with his family hunting and fishing.

In 1971, Ron moved his family to Sunshine Lake where he began several more careers. He served 28 years as a volunteer for the Gnesen Fire Dept. and 25 years serving his community as the Gnesen Township constable. Upon retiring, he began another endeavor as a small business owner of Rovinsky Excavating.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Jewel Ann Shaw.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra; his daughters Julie Ann (Steve) Stabe of Duluth, Suzanne Marie Vukelich of Goodridge, Minn., Dannalee (Victor) Hall of Seattle, Wash., and Veronica Lynn (Joel Stocke) Shaw of Duluth; his brother Joe (Susan) Shaw of Apple Valley, Minn.; his grandchildren of whom he was extremely loving and proud Adam, Haley, Ashley and Aaron Youngblom, Alexa and Darby Stabe, Justin and Jacob Vukelich, Cooper and Marek Hall and Jonah Shaw Stocke; his great-granddaughter Reese Elizabeth Youngblom; and his nephew David Shaw.

Ron could never pass up a chance to take them up to the hunting shack to go hunting, or spend hours fishing with them at the lake teaching them the importance of how to set a hook and "elbows up and aim straight".

Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

VISITATION: 12 Noon, Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, until the 1 p.m. memorial service in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second Street, Duluth, 727-3555.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ron. When I came home from leave in the Air Force once in the early 80's, my Brother Kraig had been hunting with he and the boys at his shack for a couple of years. Kraig took me up there and I got to know Ron, his Dad, brother, Butch and Gary. He let me come up there and hunt with them all. It was MY introduction to "shack" life and was it ever fun, still is. Ron was a great mentor, teacher and one hell of a story teller. First time in a sauna was there too. He just didn't like mice much (lol). All I have are good memories. I hadn't seen him a quite a few years and kick myself in the butt for that. I live in western WA and try to get back for hunting and you always "run out of time" on a long trip like that. Poor excuse, life's darn short. I'm so sorry for your loss. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. My email address is: gutnliverline@comcast.net. Chad Lee

Dear Mrs. Shaw and Girls, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Shaw. I have such incredible memories of him and your whole family! Growing up, he always knew what we were up to, and made sure we stayed out of trouble. Sunshine Lake has suffered another great loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all! Take Care, Cynthia Hill (Budd)
