EDWARD JOHNSON

Edward Johnson, 83, of Cromwell died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 in Villa Vista Care Center.

He was born March 16, 1929 in St. Paul to John and Ida (Peterson) Johnson. Ed grew up in Duluth and Hermantown. During the summers he would often spend time with his grandparents, Carl and Caroline Peterson on their farm in Cromwell. Following his graduation from Hermantown High School in 1946, Ed served in the United States Army. On Sept. 22, 1954, Ed was united in marriage to Mary Rose McIntyre. They moved to Prairie Lake Rd., north of Cromwell, where he was a dairy farmer and had beef cattle until he retired at age 80. Ed and Mary Rose were blessed with eight children during their union: Audrey, Jim, Eileen, Tom, Paul, Bob, John, and Mary.

Ed was a farmer at heart. He enjoyed spending time out in the barn with his calves, treating them as if they were pets. When he was not farming, Ed enjoyed spending time with his greatest achievement; his family. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and any opportunity he had to spend time together was cherished, with the possible exception of last summer when they cleaned out his garage for him.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Johnson; his son, Bob Johnson; a granddaughter, Beth Lundberg; and a brother, Rodney Johnson.

Ed will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Rose; seven children, Audrey (Curtis) Cady of Isanti, Jim (Joan) Johnson of Clarissa, Eileen Johnson of Cromwell, Tom (Carol) Johnson of Cromwell, Paul (Darla) Johnson of Pine City, John (Denise) Johnson, and Mary (Mike) Sullivan both of Duluth; 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cromwell. Burial will take place in the spring in Forest Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. Arrangements entrusted to the Atkins-Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
