Mary Elizabeth Novak, 55, of Babbitt, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at her home.

Mary Elizabeth Novak, 55, of Babbitt, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at her home.

Mary was born in Winton, Minn., Feb. 2, 1957, to James and Helen (Benjamin) Von Wald. She grew up in Babbitt and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1975.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt and was employed by Arcelor-Mittal in Virginia.

Mary was an avid fisherwoman and loved spending time with her family on Lake of the Woods. She also loved the game of golf, foosball and bowling, and was very active in fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister Nancy Von Wald; and extended family Henning Carlson, Barb Henry and Linda Ehelenbach.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jim; sons Aaron (Tara) Novak of Wichita, Kan., and Lance (Janessa) Novak of Cloquet; grandchildren Hadden, Bryce, Jackson, Dawson, Peyton, Jaycie, Mckenna and Helen; brothers Bruce (Judy) Von Wald of Babbitt and Stan (Sherri) Von Wald of Eveleth; sister Dolly (Mitch) Cole of Warroad, Minn.; her extended family, Bev (Bill) Nihart, Richard (Sharon) Carlson, Janet (Tom) Stellmach, Jerry Carlson, Loretta Trovick, and Joanne (Jim) Hardy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will be sadly missed by family and all that knew her.

VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Tuesday, Jan. 22, in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt with Rev. Fr. William Skarich as celebrant. Spring burial will be in Argo Cemetery in Babbitt.

Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.
