Phyllis Jayne Peterson, 89, of Grand Rapids, Minn. died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.

Phyllis Jayne Peterson, 89, of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.

Phyllis was born in 1923 to William and Mabel Olson in Cloquet, Minn.

She grew up and attended schools in Carlton, Minn., and graduated from Carlton High School. She was united in marriage to Raymond R. Peterson on Sept. 9, 1941 in Duluth. Phyllis worked as an operator for NORTHWESTERN BELL Phone Company (Calumet Division) in Duluth and later with AT&T in the engineering department until her retirement. She moved to Deer River, Minn., where she lived on Lake Winnibigoshish.

She volunteered at Little Cut Foot Sioux information center and was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers, the White Oak Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Phyllis was an avid outdoors person and loved gardening and birds.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Raymond; four sisters, Marion Iverson, Dorothy Partika, Ruth Carlson, and Bernice Schumann.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Judy Rengo of Deer River, Minn.; son, Gerald Peterson of Grand Rapids, Minn.; brother, Dean Olson of Pharr, Texas; five grandchildren, Gary (Mary) Larson, Todd (Laura) Larson, Jerry (Lisa) Peterson, Jeff (Tony Brose) Peterson, and Erin Peterson; six great-grandchildren, Jack and Ashley Larson, Hunter, Elsa and Gunnar Larson, and Cade Peterson.

GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 until the 4 p.m. Memorial Service in Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, Minn. Rev. Megan Crouch will officiate. Inurnment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery Columbarium.
