Luanne Hammerstrom, 59, of Maple Grove, passed away quietly early Jan. 1, with family by her side after a day surrounded by loved ones.
Luanne Hammerstrom, 59, of Maple Grove, passed away quietly early Jan. 1, with family by her side after a day surrounded by loved ones.
Luanne cherished life completely, especially anything that involved music, the outdoors, and children. She loved directing youth choirs both at church and in her kids' schools, and was always ready for a game of tennis, a vacation adventure (like zip-lining and swimming with dolphins), or just a long hike through the woods. A nurse by profession, she cared deeply for the wellbeing of others and more than anything, enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Duluth and the Twin Cities. In the year and a half since her ALS diagnosis, she continued to enjoy her favorite things, from traveling to the mountains and the beach with family, to staying up late playing board games, to planting flowers along the trails behind her house.
She is survived by her children, Hilary (Rasika) of Minneapolis, and Anders and Puthida Chart of Blaine, as well as by Victor (Heidy) and Justin Estevez of New York, and her four sisters, Bonnie (Lloyd), Barb, Joanne, and Jane (Al).
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Jan. 5, in Salem Covenant Church in New Brighton, with a reception to follow the service. She asked that any memorials be sent to Salem Covenant Church or the ALS Association.
