Kathleen Marie McLaughlin, 63, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 of PSP Dementia, surrounded by those who loved her. Daughter, sister, wife, friend, teacher and gardener.
Kathy left this world the same way she entered it, quietly, kindly and with supreme gentleness. Kathy was born and raised in Virginia, Minn. and graduated from Virginia high school. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and received her BA degree in Elementary Education in 1971. She taught in Proctor, MN until marrying her soulmate, Ron, in 1974. She then taught in the Burnsville school district for 31 years. She received her Masters degree from the University of Minnesota. She was devoted to teaching and to the 1000+ 1st and 3rd grade children she taught. She was committed to the children and worked very hard to improve their lives.
Kathy was an extraordinary gardener and won many awards for her English-style gardens. Her creativity was also expressed in her beautiful calligraphy work. Kathy loved the BWCA and also loved Lake Superior, where she, her husband and friends spent many days sailing the lake on her sailboat, Rhiannon. Kathy was a kind, gentle soul who cared about everyone she ever met and had no enemies. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, cherished by every person she touched and for her heart that she freely gave to everyone she met. She will be desperately missed by family and friends. Hers was a life magnificently lived, but far too short.
Preceded in death by her mother, Sophie Ann Chiarello.
Survived by her adoring husband of 38 years, Ron; father, Dave Chiarello; brother, David (Kathy) Chiarello; nephews, David Joe and Nicholas; numerous cousins and countless friends.
Ron would like to thank his sister Terry McLaughlin, family/friends Susan Goulding, Kathie Erbes, Mike Gould, Grace & Jack Mohr, Leslie & Bob Wander, Don Podiak and Brent Walton for their support and love for Kathy on her last journey. Ron would also like to thank all of the staff at Jones-Harrison for the kindness and compassion shown Kathy during her stay.
