She was born June 3, 1930 to Lillie (Fowler) and Fred Farber in rural Cass County near Staples, Minn. She was the youngest of five children, all who preceded her in death by her sisters Mabel Johnson and Goldie Fleisher and brothers Elwood and Maynard Farber.
Doris attended Staples High School in Staples, Minn., where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll Society, and the Girls Athletic Assn.
Her volunteerism included committees at First United Methodist Church, PTA, Band Parent Officer, board member of the Big Time Jazz Orchestra, and Board Chairman to Duluth Newcomers where she was nominated for "Woman of the Year." Doris worked as coordinator for "Telecare Friends", with Churches United in Ministry (CHUM), and the J.C. Penney Co.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Gordon Lee and Clarence Von Bargen. In 2009 she married her friend and beloved companion, Mr. Wayne Burton.
Doris was a loving mother of five children and two step children, Gordon Lee, Jr., Spring Valley, Wis., Stephen Von Bargen, Burnsville, Linda Von Bargen, Minneapolis, Cheryl Lee Wasmund, Duluth, Wanda Lee, St. Paul, Randy Lee, Duluth, and Daniel Von Bargen, Cedarburg, Wis.; 15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 in First United Methodist Church, 230 East Skyline Drive, Duluth with visitation at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Any memorials offered will go to the First United Memorial Fund. Services entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota 218-624-5200
