Mary M. Cigalio, 90, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

Mary M. Cigalio, 90, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

Mary Madeline Bertolino was born Feb. 25, 1922 in Pence, Wis., the daughter of Anton ana Theresa (Negri) Bertolino.

She grew up in Pence. She received her nurse’s training at Ashland Hospital. She served in the United States Army during World War II and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. She was employed at the Gogebic City Hospital before moving to Duluth. She continued to work as a Registered nurse at SMDC until her retirement.

Mary was a former member of the Cathedral and recently St. Mary Star of the Sea; she was an avid reader and she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Jonathan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2003; son Robert John in 1992; siblings, John, Joe Jim, Jeanna, and infant brother, Peter.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Christine Cigalio, and grandson, Jonathan Cigalio, both of Duluth and many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Star of the Sea, 325 East Third Street, Duluth. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth with Military honors by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to; Readers are Leaders c/o Stowe Elementary School, 715 101st Ave. W. Duluth, MN 55808 or the donor’s choice.
