Kirk William Otto, 92, formerly of Danville, Calif. died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at Presbyterian Homes in North Oaks.

Kirk William Otto, 92, formerly of Danville, Calif. died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at Presbyterian Homes in North Oaks.

He was born May 13, 1920 in Duluth to William and Geraldine (Watson) Otto.

He began his career as a pilot with Pan American World Airways in March, 1942 and married Mildred Bergstedt on Oct. 24, 1942. He retired May 13, 1980. In retirement he and Milly continued to travel. In 1982, they moved to Minnesota where Kirk attended the InterLutheran Theological Seminary, graduating in 1985.

Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, his only brother, Bruce and his wife of 66 years, Milly.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Thurman of New Brighton; son, Kirk Jr. (Carol) of Osceola, Wis.; six grandchildren, Joseph (Tracey) Thurman, John (Jennifer) Thurman, Sara Thurman, Katharine (Erik) Severson, Kirk (Aili) Otto III, and Paul Otto; 10 great grandchildren, Solomon, Lisette, Kirk IV, Aili, Leif, Sophie, Mara, Clara, Luke and Charlotte; and many other family members and friends.

Kirk came to any situation with confidence and delight whether as captain of the 747, father and friend, or board member of his church. If Kirk was there, things went better. Every morning found him sitting at the table with coffee in one hand and his Bible in the other. Milly often joined him there. Throughout the years, Kirk’s Bible study and closeness to Christ shown in all he did. May Christ who guided him, enlighten all who knew him and who will miss him.

VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 in Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown.
