Dorothy (Dottie) Blomstrand, 90, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2012, at the Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, MN.
Dorothy (Dottie) Blomstrand, 90, passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2012, at the Benedictine Health Center, Duluth, MN.
Dorothy was born February 18, 1922, in Alborn, MN, to Edgar and Mabel Hovis. She was raised in Cotton, MN, and moved to Duluth after graduating from Cotton High School.
Dorothy married Helmer Blomstrand on Sept. 11, 1943. Together they raised four children in the love of the Lord, laughter, and celebration. She was a wonderful baker and cook, and enjoyed entertaining and socializing with friends from all walks of life, including the Bethel Baptist Homebuilders. Playing the piano, knitting and candlewicking, summertime gardening, and traveling with Helmer were activities Dorothy enjoyed throughout the years.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Helmer, in 1999; her parents; nine siblings; and son-in-law Floyd Johnson (Katherine) in 2010.
She is survived by her children, James Blomstrand, Guerrero, Mexico, Thomas (Karen) Blomstrand, Visalia, Calif, Katherine Blomstrand, Duluth, and Connie (Mark) Pernecky of Northfield, Minn. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Blomstrand, Show Low, Ariz, and Kari (Tim) Ellis of Bend, Ore; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Katy and Alison Blomstrand, and Jack, Abigail and Ryan Ellis.
Family members extend sincere gratitude to all who cared for "Dottie" at Benedictine Health Center, with special thanks to Gerilynn Ronning, and are thankful for the support and concern of Dorothy’s family in Christ at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 2 p.m Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 in the Multi-Purpose Room on the Second Floor of the Benedictine Health Center with visitation one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers’ Association or charity of choice.
